A Fungal Year in Review
Did you know that this June Mushroom Musume turns one year old? It's a little shocking for us to consider. Mushroom Musume started out as a game jam game for one of PIGSquad's monthly Summer Slow jams, so we didn't really think we'd be here a year later with a game that's this big! Today as a mini-birthday party, I'll talk a little bit about the future of Mushroom Musume (plus maybe some talk about its reception, too!)
As I write this post, we're mostly done working on the newest update: The Foundations Update! We've not polished the first two acts of the game much since the initial game jam releases, so we thought it was a good time to give them a little bit of TLC... Well, I say a little bit, but we've pretty much entirely rewritten some sections! Did you know that Mushroom Musume is currently over 100k words long? For this update, our musician (and writer!) zaozoruzhna did an editing pass on almost all of those words. Polish! Other than that there's a few other little surprises too, maybe even a new girl to add to your Mushipedia~
Oh...? What's this...?
We have plans for one more content update to this version of the game before we begin working on something a little different... For the past few months, we've been discussing concepts for a 'definitive', expanded, version of the game that we would sell on Steam. I think we have some really fun concepts for how to expand and refine the gameplay and story, so please look forward to it!
Over the last few months, we've been blown away by the reception we've gotten from the community. We're aware that this type of game can be a little niche - and we're also aware that we don't give the player a ton of hints about how our systems work (notably this is something that we're still working on improving!). So to have so many people love our game has been really meaningful, for us.
We'd like to thank anyone who's written us on itch, as well as a few others who've written really kind words about us elsewhere! We wanted to highlight some of these wonderful reviews that really make us proud of what we have created:
- Year of Games 10: Mushroom Musume from No Escape
- I Love My Mushroom Daughter by fellow game dev Lily Valeen (Check out BOSSGAME for magical devil hunting girlfriends, by the way)
- and this beautiful review from vndb
And in particular we'd like to thank our #1 fan cutebreatty123, who's always spoiling us with fine gifts of fanart! If you haven't already, check out some of their incredible work! Here are just a couple of our current favorites...

one question is there child porn in this game cause most games ive seen on this site containg children has child porn in them so im kind of worried this game is like those.
To be very clear, there is not! The game sometimes has dark and adult themes but never any explicit lewd stuff, and certainly not any lewd stuff in the direction of children.
